The Greenham Common protests, and multiple films, kept the fear of nukes front and centre for a new generation in the '80s, up to the fall of the Wall. "Threads" had real shock value.

We'd just moved to Sheffield when they made 'Threads', shopping on The Moor never felt comfy. When the Cuban crisis happened I was a young teen living in central London & my parents said if the bombs come we needn't about the awful aftermath as LDN will be a prime target and we'll be deceased.

I was too, but in a peculiar Italian perspective, where we did not really know if the many USA airbases could be concealing something from us, especially Aviano...(I was born in 1970). But we were also on the border with the East block
