To be fair, machine learning tools have transformed climate modeling and weather prediction. "AI" has really helped predictive modeling of many complex systems, but the interpretation and presentation of the results are best left to human beings.

That's a general problem caused by the relatively recent absurd marketing of "AI". They diluted the term to the point of uselessness, probably permanently.

If I worked in the fields of what "AI" used to mean, I'd probably just totally abandon the term, at least when talking to non-experts.

Yes, the term "AI" is horribly misused. I go out of my way to avoid anything with that stupid label.
