The Turkish government is planning to require social media users to register accounts under their real names with the goal of ending anon accounts.

I really fear we are not understanding the cliff we're approaching around the world re: online anonymity.

Keep in mind that this is being rolled out in a country which heavily punishes dissent and insults to the president (and memes comparing him to Gollum...or Smeagol). It is no mystery what this will be used for.
