if there's a core MAGA belief it's that cruelty/violence/exclusion will improve their lives, that only Trump is strong enough to act, and every day we see more ways that's false, that all the wokeness and diplomacy they see as weakness is not only morally good but was also done out of self-interest

Exactly, and not just in that they don't believe in positive-sum interactions. As we're seeing now, they also don't believe in negative-sum ones. They think everything has a clear winner and a clear loser, so if you're not one you're the other.

Yes, @rodger.bsky.social is making the more interesting point that even if it is worth it to them so long as other people are doing relatively worse, they are acting in ways that don't EVEN do that for them. They're grabbing an enemy and diving off a cliff, when the enemy has a parachute, not them.
