Not enough places to lock up a bike are a massive factor and often overlooked in the discussion about infrastructure. Most car parks can afford the space for a small bike rack at least if not a proper bike shelter.

But most bikes can be fitted with baskets or panniers which is good

I considering buying one.
Mostly for the health benefits but the perk would be saving on gas.

Try a few out or see if there's anywhere you can hire a bike for a week. Look into if your city does any sort of cycle confidence or adults on bikes schemes - they're often small non-profits and can be great to help you get used to cycling your city, route planning etc. (Sorry I'm very keen)
