Boris Johnson and Suella Braverman are constant reminders of just how deeply unimpressive you can be as a human being and still get incredible power - and how useless and complicit our supposed systems of checking are - I don’t give us long

I won’t lie, it’s the only thing that gives me hope I can overcome my obvious inadequacies.

I feel like those on the right of politics are deeply insubstantial people who get built up as substantial by our overwhelmingly right wing press. While those on the left - many of whom are deep thinkers - feel the need to make themselves insubstantial in order to get by in UK political life.

You are so right and the fact that after all they have done they are still in the headlines.

This is what you get with a de facto two party system and FPTP voting.

Chris Mason said he was struck by "how emotional" she was. Something she has in common with Jenrick is how spectacularly bad her acting is, like the very worst performer in the very worst village amdram society.

Well Mason wouldn’t spot acting - not if it was a Tory or Reform but you bet on any Labour politician he would be mouthing off as a ‘sign of weakness’

The politicians that were only in it for themselves have found themselves out of favour in the Tory party and so are jumping ship to Reform believing they will return to high office with them.

We remember how you screwed this country to line your own pockets and those of your mates.

Indeed. Once Farridge and his pitiful twats get elected the UK will be headed down the US path. Fortunately the UK is outside the EU now, but we still have Hungary and Poland to contend with.

If that happens society is toast because UK lacks any effective Constitutional protections against a rogue government.
The best is the ECHR which is not a UK protection but explains why the likes of Braverman want to leave it.

Minnesota is showing us that the best defence is community and trust. I think we should all try and find more ways to strengthen those.

Up to the first hyphen, bang on, Robin. Disagree that our checks were useless, but they were slow, painful etc. You don't give us long ... I agree we need to get on top of the defects you highlight, and that right soon. Meanwhile I do have hope.

The electorate don't treat elections seriously enough. You have to be a pantomime villain to get elected.

Our system spat them out relatively quickly, particularly if you compare to Trump.

They serve a purpose though Robin.

They keep our imposter syndrome in check.

That ilk are described as corruption or rot.
But they put me in mind of parasitic trees. They start high in the canopy, reaching down with their roots to envelop, steal nutrients and water, block sunlight. They stand strong as the trees that they strangle die and decay within.

Yes, that describes the horror I feel about all those who seem intent in dividing and destroying their community. In this country, America and elsewhere.
