I think it really shows where we’re at that the show’s been so popular but has no meaningful reviews (because news media’s dying and cut off reviews early on). The show’s narration and focus on dominance are atrocious, but who would take it seriously “because aren’t dinosaurs kids’ stuff?”

I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the reviews thus far. Dinosaurs have never been just animals. They’re heavy with symbolism and part of fighting for better science is pointing out how colonialist and imperialist tropes need to be stripped out of the way we talk about ancient life.

I appreciate the layers of depth and insight. Even on a more "casual viewer" level, the standard conflict-based dino doc narratives are getting stale. How many of this trying to eat that, earthquake, volcano, climate change, starvation and drought, etc., do we need? Mix it up somehow.

It feels very circular, yeah. Like a story needs tension, but the only way the show’s creators could think to deliver was fighting and eating. Docustories pieces together from animal footage have done the same for a long time, but it sucks to see the same beats so entrenched.
