Haven't seen an ad on TV since 2001 when I cut the cable and became a pirate. Never looked back. Choice on my home server is comparable to Austrian (=much worse) Netflix minus shit I have zero interest in.

the end result sounds nice but having to pirate everything you feel like watching and keep it all on a dedicated drive big enough to hold it all sounds really difficult compared to the ease of streaming, especially if you're mooching off someone else's accounts

There are ways to automate nearly all of it. It's an upfront cost of time and hardware to set it up but then you don't have to worry about it again.

I got a 1 gig line and a 32 TB server. I'll pretty much never run out of space (helps that I can't keep 4K and Full-HD apart).

So yea it's about as convenient as streaming even if I want to see something I don't have yet. It takes the Plex server longer to index a new film than it takes to d/l ;)

tbf, you don't have to hold it all if you don't think you will want to revisit a given show - and you can still mooch off someone else's account if you can't find or can't be assed to find the show yourself
