But there is just so much of it, and I'm tired. Because I write about this, I get told a lot of stuff in private, so I carry that too. I'm so tired of rapists. I'm so tired of rape culture. I'm so tired of the dehumanization of girls and women.

We try to give at least the gift & duty of listening & believing, of "hearing women into speech." Can we who listen, give the same gift & duty to each other? Sometimes the listener needs to be heard into speech by other listeners.

I'm tired of using terms that leave off and paper over mens' culpability.

Patriarchy IS the rape culture.

MeToo never had a chance against this culture, and their reaction to it demonstrates it. We always blame racism, which deserves it, misogyny is probably a bigger problem we do not take as seriously. And it seems to be getting worse day by day. Good men need to step it up and help in anyway possible

At a time I had to stop reading Amnesty International's reports on crimes against human rights, wars where women were routinely raped and mutilated, because it made me deeply depressed and anguished knowing I have a body that automatically makes me a target and the world want to hurt me.

One of my mentors research focus was rape as a weapon of war. Most of her work was face to face field work in places like Rwanda. I will never understand how she didnโ€™t immolate every man she saw.

Yep. I did so much work in rape prevention and crisis counseling for so long. (Never mind my own experience.) Iโ€™m not sure tired covers it. Itโ€™s just, beyond. Like, guys, could you simply not? Would it kill you to treat women like people? Would it?

Dear Rebecca, please, do not give in, get your head up, shoulders straight, we need to collect all strengths we can muster to keep fighting- the patriarchy is on the move to throw us back. Though I think, that fascism is class politics, feminism might be up to it

The banality of it as much as the horrific stories. The way so many girls and young women are groomed to accept abuse. We relive our own trauma when we hear these stories. Thank you for doing this work and please care for yourself.

Iโ€™m tired of women having stories to tell. Iโ€™m so disgusted.

This deluge was the pit in my stomach when Tr**p was elected the first time. I worked 11 years as an advocate for teens and a prevention educator. Like so many, I knew this pipeline and felt it open.

I am sorry you have to carry so much. Itโ€™s way too much for all of us, not to mention one person. Endless and maddening and painful.

(Obviously I and feminism are not stopping. But it's been a long haul through the monstrous ugliness of misogynist abuse. And I think there's a real effect on those of us who've been so saturated with these stories, year after year. A war of sorts, with its war correspondents.)

It has been, to use that overused word, empowering to participate in changing the world as part of the ongoing feminist insurrection; things have genuinely changed (some). But still: I cannot count the all the stories of rape, stalking, beatings, murder, abuse, degradation, silencing I've taken in.

Have you read โ€œThe Changeโ€ by Kristen Miller? Super dark but oddly endearing satirical comedy about exactly this.

Absolutely, to all of this. I worked as a sexual assault counsellor for ten years, and even now- 20 years after leaving that work- I feel the effects of that. My worldview was altered by the hundreds of stories I heard. It is unbearable that this still happens every day, to so many women.
