Leaving aside the need; this should also be an opportunity to marvel at the phenomenon of musical instruments: crumple pieces of tin & blow on them; tie pieces of plank with cat gut & bang on them; stretch strings of cat gut on planks & strum them: & you get Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy”!!!?!!?
The story is Dave Brubeck was working a field (his father's farm?) and was waiting for a truck or something and he heard the irrigation pump making this syncopated rhythm that inspired this tune.
