You're thinking of PHEVs. Hybrids are still good. Look at the prius. Incredible gas mileage, extremely reliable. Batteries are fairly small and simple to replace after 15 years.

The prius doesn't even need lithium since it uses a NiMH battery (except the prime)

I've had a Prius, and I've had a PHEV Caddy. Both of them have all sorts of complexity and shit that can break that EVs just don't have in them to worry about. It's just silly to still own a car that takes gas, period.
