For the record the whole "helium shortage" thing was not actually a real shortage. The helium reserve drove down prices so people stopped extracting helium on purpose, it only comes from natural gas. As NG use drops and the reserve got used up prices increased until production equalized.

O yes, the invisible magic market hand we came to know and love when budgeting NSF and DOE proposals, asking the one hand of the gubmint to pay $$$$ to the other hand of the gubmint for helium needed in service of the national interest. We loved learning republican petroleum economics yessir.
