🔴 Exclusive: Corporate donations British parties tripled over last three elections

But here's key thing: almost none is from FTSE500/listed companies

It's almost all companies controlled by super-wealthy individuals, or small, opaque firms

The point about high-net worth individuals is telling and worth emphasising

A whole bunch of Labour policies that didn't appear in the manifesto and that almost everybody hates seem oddly familiar from e.g. the Epstein files and other glimpses we have into that world

There's no reason to allow companies to donate. Get a dividend and pay tax and then donate if you like.

Donations should be disbanded. Govt should give equal amount to each party for mktg leading up to an election

Any donations from corps should go into this shared pot

Corp dinners/lobbying should be banned

There was £14 million donated from companies before the 2017 election.

By 2024, the figure was £42m. Just five gave £27MILLION

In 2024, Labour took £13.3m, exceeding trade union donations (£10.6m) for the first time in the party’s history.

America and citizens united have shown the way, and the possibilities.

Compared to the billions that get spent in America it's actually embarrassing how cheaply our politicians can be bought for by comparison.

Oh, no. That's what happened here in the US! Get the dark money out of your politics, or you'll be in our boat.

And this is why Labour are governing for the wealthy and the reason inequality is getting worse. Donations and lobbying need to be banned.

An independent Scotland can do much better than this, just take private ‘donations’ out of iScottish politics & have a system that publicly funds it, based on members or seats or votes…#Scottishindependence

This is huge. (The potential for) corruption at the heart of Westminster politics.

Ban all corporate donations! Corporations don’t vote and they don’t have a moral code the donate to everybody just so they can influence policy. Why not pay their taxes and contribute positively to society and use that as leverage with governments and society at large

They're banned in the Green party, which also has fully democratic policy making and doesn't use the whip system as it is too easily corrupted.
The Greens are what politics should be.
