My neighbor’s child was 5 when he moved in and became friends with our child. He grew up going on vacations with us and holidays. We loved him. Then he came out. His family blamed us because supposedly we made him gay. We never saw him much after that. Broke my heart.

I'm so sorry to hear about that. My fiancee came from a somewhat broken home & had friend-families like that. I can't imagine how they'd feel if she was pulled from them over something like that. They've always loved her at least as much as her own mom did.

I suspect that he knew from that tender age that your home was a safe place, that he was simply accepted for who he was. Very young children have very good instincts.
