I think those ‘super computer communicators’ are responsible for a lot. People don’t care about real news, they prefer having a point of view presented to them that reinforces their political beliefs and they use their cell phones to find those views.

No doubt the "social" algos are tuned to segregate and radicalize us into steerable cliques. Personal responsibility and vigilance are increasingly forgotten values.
