I read that book first in 2003, and it shocked me deeply. I've read it again since then, although not in the Mango Mussolini era: I'm afraid to.

It's a novel, written in the 1930's, about a fascist leader in the US who rises with the support of the religious right. I read the first 1/2 a few years ago & had to put it down as there are so many similarities to where we are in the US now & it was too hard to read it as fiction when it's real.
