I've never even lived in France and yet I got tear gassed there on 2 separate occasions. Also the 2015-2020 wave of protests in Poland that I grew up around got pretty violently suppressed with a lot of my friends from my high school years ending up in jail and w/ dragging court cases for protesting

i currently live in liberal darling portugal where the cops do regular roundups of ethnic minorities (in Martim Moniz in Lisbon), have killed several defenceless Black ppl just last year, and raid queer/left-wing cultural spaces w/o a warrant
