“Millionaires in Remuera”, you say? Interesting choice of example.🤔

Also: just because you have that one anecdote about that one friend doesn’t invalidate a policy that was working for a great number of other people, who also exist.

It's not about EVs.

This govt's philosophy is every man* for themselve and it's not the govt's business to help with anything. The market knows best and it's your fault if you can't afford it. Same for housing, health, decent education, food, power...

*Yep, govt for middle aged men.

Accurate assessment. And today's announcements were very much "No New Ideas Will Be Entertained." ☹️

What about millionaires on Waiheke?

A millionaire driving an EV, taking a bus or riding a bike is making things better for everyone every bit as much as if Joe Bloggs was…

Subsidies to millionaires is literally what they did handing out top bracket tax cuts.

So by this logic, 90% of Norwegians are millionaires.

Seems to have been corrected since. Someone at RNZ was typing fast this morning! 😅

I'm sure there are some Teslas in Remuera

But the vast majority of EVs now are Leafs, BYDs and Konas and driven all over the city.

Small efficient cars that no self-respecting Millionaire from Remers would be seen dead in

There are some, yes…

This has always been National's lie - that EVs are the expensive luxury that only the rich buy

But the point is the rich can always buy whatever they want

What the discount made possible was to let middle NZ buy efficient cars that would pay off long-term for them and for AoNZ

Yep! And since one (1) person now counts as evidence: I know of one youth who saved hard, and tapped the discount to buy a (second-hand) Leaf as their first car.

If the policy had stayed in place, we'd now have 30,000 EVs on the road, ready to be someone else's second-hand first car in a few years.

Retired, but started looking for an EV last year, lots of good buys around then - and now! I have always just charged at home with solar.

Meanwhile here in reality when you buy a new car you have payments on it along with full coverage insurance. I've never paid over $1,500 for a gas vehicle. My current vehicle cost me less than your monthly car note.

And, helping the boss, or hurting, under the circs? Hard to tell.
