Not me binge-reading two dozen or so of Clive Cussler's works one summer and at one point spending 3/4ths of a book mentally swapping Dirk Pitt and Kurt Austin's names (even their sidekicks got caught in the crossfire) and the story still worked just fine because they were so similar to one another.
