that would be fine, but them's not the rules right now. We have to fight on the battlefield we've landed on (or more precisely somehow gifted ourselves a couple years back by voting for this nonsense).

I'm already seeing people digging in. I will vote Dem in November. Hopefully I can choose between two. I've decided on my first choice, but if he's not an option, I'll still vote Blue.

If Dems don't coalesce around one or at most two candidates, there will be no Democrat to vote for in the fall.

We risk having only two Republicans on the ballot in November, because of the top-two system that effectively means that the primary is the first round of the general election.
