Thank you so much for reaching out to Bluesky and sharing their reply. It's making me feel even better about moving my creative stuff off of Twitter. No Block feature and this Ai garbage really just didn't sit well and I already went through a purge 7 months ago with all the Meta platforms.

I also discovered in the Moderation Tool Settings there is a Logged-Out Visibility Toggle. When I turned it on and shared a link on Discord the usual image preview was no longer there and it was just the link to the post I was sharing.

This is why I decided to start posting my art on here. My art may not be the best but I refuse to let it be used by AI “artists” 😤

Oh Nice… I’m actually surprised to see them openly confront that rumor

They may not be doing it directly but I’ve def I had one AI text me on here. Or it was just a really really awkward person

I guess that’s what twitterX is for now; teaching algorithms that if they see anything on here that looks like X content, that’s more likely in need of moderation lol.

Yeah exactly. It might be an open web therefore more "vunerable" for some randos to scrap our arts- bUT it didnt came from blusky themselves & still illegal. N honestly, awful people will find a way do awful thing like breech twt's security regardless. A lock is just a way to keep honest man honest.

Plus you can set it so people have to actually log in to see your account as well as use lists of AI losers to block a lot of them at once

And sure it helps that the social media itself is not on the creeps' side, like the xwitter is... xD

"does use AI internally to assist in content moderation"

See this is the stuff that AI is actually useful for, and what the industry should be pursuing. AI should never replace creative effort.

Of course, AI moderation decisions should ALWAYS be appealable to an actual person.

Honestly wish people would be more nuanced about AI, the way people talk about AI being bad in all cases makes me feel really guilty for using accessibility software in order to have a voice because I can't use my vocal vords which simply wouldn't be possible without it

Great to hear. I still would advise protecting your art from others with glaze or other similar items however. But a very nice stance to hear from them : )

Unfortunately they can't stop other companies like meta from training AI on bluesky content as long as it's publicly available. Please don't get the impression that there are no AI being trained on bsky!

It should be noted that it is not only Bluesky.
So far, the ban for AI training on your content has been introduced:

Bluesky

Blackmagic Design (their Cloud storage)

Vimeo.

Cloudflare has developed a tool (based on AI 😏) that blocks the activity of AI bots on your resource.

Let's not forget that "AI" is a hot term in computing right now
When they say this for moderation sake, it could be just an algorithm and they just slapped "AI" on it just to sound cool

so that's why moderation is a mixed bag, GenAI has zero fucking idea about context and is severely inferior to human moderation

genAi isn't used for moderation, it's a different type of AI, but yes otherwise you're right

I remember once I tried to fix my birthday cause it was set to 1999 when I originally created it and but it back to 2000 and they tried to ban my account despite me being an adult at that point I tried to fix it. 🙃 so it's forever stuck in 1999

Twitter absolutely trains ai's on its app

You have a very limited capacity to protect yourself against that

1. Check your settings there is one AI model that you can remove permissions for (but because they are training multiple you're out of luck there)

Not surprised at all. If you want any support at all from them all you get is "Subscribe to Premium!" Absolute joke. That's how they handled my account when it got borked for 8 days for no apparent reason.

It's not used to steal or generate content by using others content I assume. They probably use it to identify trends to fit users tastes for the discover tab and moderate bad stuff

Only caveat I will say - a web crawler could still grab your art and feed it into an AI model regardless of site rules.

If you are posting art anywhere and want to not only limit it's impact but actually harm it - learn how to add Nightshade to your images.

As someone in cybersecurity and tech, I'm glad they specify that while they use AI, it's not Generative AI.

Generative AI is usually the one people have an issue with, given it's the one with all the drawbacks. The transparency and honesty is appreciated!

Not to mention generative ai is expensive and resource hungry

Gen ai is a fools errand

I really love how bad the "gen Ai" wording is to a company have to clarify they use algorithms for some part of the experience.
This is why wording is so fucking important on explaining things. But , u know, marketting.

It’s really sad that this gen ai (transformer and diffusion models) have muddied the waters so much that actually useful AI things like image recognition, edge detection, upscaling, OCR, and other such machine learning models all get a bad rap.

Genuine question: isn't Sky easily scraped by big AI companies tho? Sky may not be directly giving AI stuff, but this website is vulnerable. Any site that can be viewed without login can be scraped. Twitter requires login before viewing, but they're feeding their personal AI soon. Sky feeds any.

I read if you don't know, now you know to the tune of Emperor's New Clothes that PatD song

So, if AI looks at your stuff to moderate it, doesn’t it learn from the experience? Isn’t that the point of it, that it doesn’t stay fixed? Seems like BlueSky does not understand the tools it uses 1/2
1
0
2
. . . Perhaps that’s why AIs skew racist, because they are used to moderate the most atrocious things that humans come up with . 2/2
0

Doesn't go against ai scrapers. There are algorithms that doesn't change the look of your art seen by humans but it does mess with ai. Artist should implement that if they don't want their art being trained on by ai.

I’d actually like it if their content moderation AI was trained on users content. Specifically content reported and actioned. So that the tooling becomes more intelligent and less reliant on content being reported in the first place.

That's generally how it works. There's still some mistakes here and there but a lot of automated takedown function this way.

But can't other ai systems still scrape bluesky?
1

0
The large AI companies can scrape anything that is visible. This does not mean it will not have consequence if they do not have permission. (Unfortunately, legal systems need to catch up.)
In addition:
0
0
2
1) they can always change their mind 2) this doesnt say they wont sell your data to ai companies 3) they already using ai and are funded by crypto companies 4) your art is still accessible by ai scrapers
1
0
2
1) Yes, obviously. The terms of use can be changed at any time.
2) No doubt, as they all do. Companies are all evil.
3) AI is an extremely broad term and there's nothing inherently wrong with it. Copyright is a special case of specific types of AI.
4) If you post it publicly, it will be scraped.

just to say: with skyfeed or any feed tool everybody, even a KI bot, can extract any content from bluesky. And use it to train any AI. Even if bluesky don't use such tools.

A good use for Al is to detect diseases before they get worse, such as cancer for example. Generative Al is bad for our environment, especially its use for images, videos, text, etc. All my homies say the same thing, no joke.
0

3
"None of these are GenAI systems trained on users' content"

But ARE they GenAI?
2
0
0
The Discover Feed algorithm, no. The way it works, it's not generating images based on noise, or text based on seeds or however LLMs work.

The stuff that helps moderate… uses the like "what is this image" type AI and the "summarize this text" type AI though.
Not generative, but still AI.
