I'm still struck by how much the "consider the ethical impacts of AI" conversation in libraries feels similar to many of the conversations around diversity in the profession.

We're focused on raising awareness, "using mindfully," but any suggestion of larger action gets you funny looks.

So much this.

I refused to participate in an AI something recently by stating, "It is against the ethics of my profession. Therefore, I am refusing to participate."

They had no words & were shocked.

Had a training recently and a colleague asked “you’ve been saying it shouldn’t matter if a book is written with AI or not because we should judge on quality but how do we know if it was written with AI or not” and the trainer was like “you don’t need to check if it’s AI or not…

Vendors are going to expect libraries to start paying more as they integrate AI into their products. We've already been seeing that here.
