That's not how they're selling AI, though. They're selling it as a source of truth and expertise. And a lot of people are falling for it.

Yeah which is fucked on so many levels. However I think using phrasing like "tricked" helps further that point, by making it seem that the LLM is truthful by default. When it is not and cannot be, as it is not capable of intent - a crucial part of truth and deception.

I see this point, but people have also (to some extent) internalized the way that LLMs have been sold. I feel like there is some value in communicating to those people that the LLMs can’t even do what it’s claimed they can do. Break that spell first.

This is why I've taken to calling them bias enhancing machines, because that's what they're designed to do at a fundamental level by collapsing everything to statistically common sequences.
