"Biden, Harris, and the Democrats might be persuaded by protests while Trump and the Republicans can't be and might respond violently" is hard to square with "the parties are the same, it makes no difference who wins the US election, especially when it comes to foreign policy and Israel-Palestine."

I see your point. Are you citing a specific person or org that has said those two seemingly contradictory statements?

That second quote is reductionist nonsense that nobody actually says.

The parties are too similar, as evidenced by the fact that pro Palestine encampments were demonized and repressed in '24 - which is hard to square with your first quote.

Repressed by whom? DOJ threats and investigations against universities? Revocation of federal research funding? Was it primarily Democratic members of Congress running the hearings to get female college presidents fired?

I don't follow your point. Which party acknowledges that "Israel" is an illegitimate colonialist state built on land and wealth stolen from the indigenous Palestinians by European invaders and must be completely dismantled?

It’s clear they are the easily manipulated rubes of the left.

I think I'd phrase it slightly differently. It's not that Biden and Harris would be persuaded by the protests; it's that they're harmed by the protests, because any winning coalition for them includes people who find the protesters sympathetic.

The "both parties are the same" take is just dumb, tho

If you look at it from a view of cold political gamesmanship, this was a perfect issue to fracture a core Democratic constituency. Support for Israel is still high, even among people condemn their actions after Oct 7th

Also "Trump will actually be better on I-P because... reasons."

My favorite of those reasons was that Trump would stand against Netanyahu because Trump doesn't like being played. As if Trump's first term didn't happen.

Nice use of straw man. Very convincing.👍🏽

I actually said a similar thing in a forum recently: Trump has seized power in part because the modern GOP believes in an imperial presidency. The democrats don't have that belief, so claiming they would do the same is an extraordinary claim and requires extraordinary proof.

That’s because those aren’t the same people saying that at the same time. “I like pineapple” and “I don’t like pineapple” aren’t contradictory either if different people say them at different times.

Know that the organizers and protestors are sincere in their belief that the objects of their protest are susceptible to moral suasion. Others (or protestors themselves, later) view the failure of those objects as the result of a cravenness that was not a part of the protestors’ calculus.

Many (not all, but a decisive many) protest organizers were rejectionists whose aim is not peace but destruction of Israel. From this perspective, the aim is to grow support for rejectionism, not for peace. Attacking Biden serves this aim, attacking Trump doesn't.

"Proven after we totally did nothing to sabotage Clinton. Or,when we threw Ralph Nader 100,000 Fl votes in a state and race decided by 500, because, umm, Gaza."

You see, sh¡+libs left us no choice but to destroy the country and maybe the world. But at least we successfully freed Palestine!"

Harris is fine. She didn’t get the job, but she’s mostly moved on with her life. Millions of ordinary people are suffering and dying worldwide because of policies that never would have been chosen if Trump had lost.

The tell for me was that in an election year, very little energy went into expanding pro-ceasefire/anti-genocide voices in the House. If the Squad just held onto all their seats if not add one or two the US response would be remarkably different. Yet the protest organizers focused just at the top

Because all they cared about was blaming Jews. They didn't actually care about helping anyone or doing anything positive. None of them could actually articulate what they were fighting for. It was antisemitism at its finest.
