I grew up in a tobacco colored kitchen myself.

Oh, same here.

I don't mind the subtle colors myself. They help draw emphasis on objects rather than walls and ceilings. Our house interior is a very pale off-white, but then we have a *lot* of paintings and artwork loaded on the walls. As for cars, white is practical with climate change.
