From an IT worker prospective depends on what you are using it for. A laser printer from any big brand usually work fine, but may not always be best option. Epson has good options in their tank printer and can be dialed in for nice quality, but would recommend using frequently to prevent clogging.

Depends on what you want, but I have used a Brother INKvestment printer (there's a bunch of different models) for years and they have served me incredibly well. Main advantage is not needing to spend a fortune on ink. But, I also mainly print documents, so I don't know if they're good for photos.

Seriously, Brother laser printers are the no-nonsense, no-scamming recommendation I see most from IT people.
