Nearly 1 in 6 UK species are threatened with extinction.

We've lost 97% of our wildflower meadows since the 1930s.

We have 73 million fewer birds than in the 1970s - a decline of almost a third.

And yet some politicians still just see wildlife as a blocker to progress.

I’d like to see the National Trust decarbonise its assets in the food chain. GHG emissions from beef and sheep and dairy being some of the highest, not to mention more land to rewild. Don’t get me wrong I’m a big fan of the NT, but if we are serious about animal ag is a big part of the problem.

The greatest hope for nature is to put more effort into raising awareness among youth. I read that about 571 to 600 plant species have gone extinct in the last 250 years, a rate of loss up to 500 times faster than the natural background rate due to human activity.

Problem is that when you do email your MP after a few weeks you get a reply, presumably a standard text produced by DEFRA and/or the Exchequer, telling you how much money they are spending and how well nature is doing. They don't live in the real world so don't recognise how nature is declining.

Nature is not on this government’s agenda. Many good things are, but not that.

Great to see this effort being put in. We are light years away from achieving 30x30 and still very little recognition of the role of fungi. The science has been clear for over a decade the Kingdom of fungi needs to be recognised and valued or we are all just tinkering with trees
