Haitians fought in the Revolutionary War for US independence. The new Haitian government gave weapons to Simon Bolivar for the independence of Gran Colombia. The Haitian Revolution inspired slave uprisings. Haitians have done more for freedom in the hemisphere than most countries.

A leading NHS CFO is Haitian by descent, his sister holding down a 20-year lead role in a UK sitcom. He is one of the most talented and thoroughly decent CFO I have ever worked with.

The Haitian Revolution led directly to the Louisiana Purchase, helping the US become a major power. But there’s an alternate history less well known. Napoleon famously tried to invade Haiti and re enslave the Haitians. He failed. The Haitians beat the French, Spanish and British.

Exiled to St. Helena, Napoleon wrote that his greatest errors were invading Russia and Haiti. Instead, he imagined what he could have done by allying with the Haitian army, including conquer the Caribbean. He may have expanded rather than sold French holdings in North America.

scratching my head at this one. it "led" to the LP insofar as the US sided with France and dropped Haiti as a key trading partner. Napoleon "lost" in the sense that Haiti wound up a pariah nation forced to pay France reparations that beggared it for its entire subsequent history.

It was the Haitian revolution that did it. All the Western countries hate them for that, especially America. No one comes to their aid, they let dictators run the place and don't care. So much for being the beacon of freedom in the world.
