I think it’s less about “opportunistic parasites dressed as socialists” (though I don’t believe Mamdani is a real socialist either) but more that electing individual socialists isn’t going to change the system, whether they’re real socialists or not. Operating within the system will never cut it.

To be clear I’m def not defending Mamdani here, he has to be dragged for the things he’s doing/choosing not to do and for going back on what he promised. But I still support electing socialists into office even though I know they can’t fix things. WE have to.

Getting more socialists running for office in a way that’s integrated with the broader movement towards socialism will help push us forward. It’s about moving the window left and showing the constraints of this system. There’s a way to be intentional about this, they won’t all be leeches.
