Tori Amos and Neil Gaiman were best friends, and he’s mentioned by name in many of her songs. Tori was blindsided and devastated after allegations of Neil being a sexual predator came out. They’re no longer friends and she took him out of her song “Horses” last night: www.tiktok.com/ href="/profile/mrzebra1980/video/7627298507052944654?_r=1&_t=ZP-95S6JC7rU6h">@mrzebra1980/video/7627298507052944654?_r=1&_t=ZP-95S6JC7rU6h

Dang, and… good. I mean, not just friends, but also she was an inspiration for some of his characters (e.g. both Death & Delirium), a muse, of sorts. From a guy who wrote a story about a guy who enslaved a muse, but then tried to live that out in real life. Gotta be awful to work through all this

Yeah, and her farm in Virginia is where Shadow climbed into the World Tree in American Gods.

Yea that muse and inspiration relationship was mutual. She wrote albums at his home. He's in so many of her songs. They were family.

It took a lot for her to do this, as a survivor herself.

When she is done with someone, she is done. I feel so terribly for her. What a betrayal to lose a friend/collaborator/muse like that. But of course she is doing the right thing and her fans were right there supporting it

Not sure how she can salvage Tear In Your Hand, which sucks on many levels.

Good for her. He's a monster and so is his wife. Boys For Pele is a masterpiece.

I read a Random Notes (Rolling Stone magazine) paragraph where Linda Rondstadt warned Nicolette Larson “Neil is a weirdo, be careful”.
Circa 1980..

It's disheartening how the creeps are always known within their industry

huh, i never knew that was who was being mentioned. makes me wonder if Bill and Ben are specific people too

you can tell the fans are dedicated when they cheer at that lyric change, already knowing the context

Oh no. You’re telling me that when she and Neil would be hanging out with the Dream King, that was THAT Neil?
GAH. Why? As if whatever creepy shit he did wasn’t bad enough, upsetting Amanda Palmer and Tori Amos in one go? 90s teen girl rage activated.

Amanda was a collaborator? I give no shits about her being upset in abuse she was complicit in.

I took all my Sandman books—and I loved Sandman—to 2nd and Charles recently. felt depressing.

Has she performed Tear In Your Hand after all that?

If I’m correct this would be her first tour after the revelations, and then this one literally her first show.

Not yet. This is her second song of the tour. He’s also mentioned by name in Carbon and Space Dog.

All absolute bangers.

As a life long fan - who literally learned about Gaiman from Tori songs - I’m not surprised by Tori’s integrity. So sorry for her, though.

I mean, “me…and a gun…” is burned into my into my soul. I can’t imagine the betrayal she feels after creating such vulnerable work and learning of his horrors.

The way she *emphasized* the change… she’s such a Real One.

There were people right here on Bluesky shitting all over Tori because they felt she wasn't repudiating NG to their own personal satisfaction and time frame.

I became obsessed with both in '92. Loved their art & the fact they were so close. Neil being outed as a monster about broke me because he was my favorite writer but it gives me faith that despite their friendship, Tori is able to recognize his toxicity & address.

I've wondered how she responded, and I'm glad to hear that she did the right thing. It must have been awful for her, but doing the wrong thing would have been worse for her.

Not a big fan of her work (just not my thing) but she's always impressed me as a person of strong character, so I'm not surprised

I LOVE this. All of effing history until now, only the victims faced erasure. Absolutely glorious to see a wildly successful artist erase the predator.

I was there last night and there was palpable shock - then cheering & applause - when she changed the lyric from “will you find me if Neil makes me a tree?” to “will you find me in the Battle of Trees?”. And today she’s revealed she’s cut him out of her and her daughter’s life in a Times interview.

It never ceases to amaze me that people with empathy will cast out their fallen within moments, and people without empathy will hold on to their failed and flawed humans like totems and golden calfs.

this is sad because he's in so many songs

off top of my head at least half a dozen

are the allegations confirmed?

sigh why do so many great people end up like that,
Joss Whedon too and I'm sure others can rattle off a long list

“Great” people end up like this because they use their greatness to exploit others.

Obviously. Or he wouldn’t have dropped out of public life. Also pro tip just believe women. We almost never lie about this shit.
