Layoffs are not just β€œhow the industry is going”

They happen because pieces of shit who care only about themselves are put in positions of power

Pieces of shit who have ruined this industry

Never forget what these people have done. This industry is devastated, and their bank accounts are bulging

if Tim Sweeney had an "accident" and his wealth was redistributed within the company that would solve every issue they mentioned btw

I read wealth as health and that was an interesting phrase

i've been laid off 3....maybe 4?....times in my own industry since about 2007 so i'm always gonna give a thumbs up to anyone who doesn't do it because it feels like an important thing to say. good for you

That’s fucking horrible, I’m sorry to hear that. I know too many people who have the very same story as you. It’s complete bullshit that this is apparently just how it works

First 12 words of that post: way to tell me you're a relatively successful millennial without saying it. It's weird talking to people of other generations who don't describe _successful_ careers as being laid off repeatedly but able to find a job afterward.

Sounds like every job I've ever had.

Nice to know there are some who are different.

Agreed. It’s every industry. You don’t achieve the highest CEO to worker pay ratio in history without exploiting some humans. Very few exceptions anywhere these days.

It feels like the history of, at least western game development, is the battle between artistic endeavors and the relentless pursuit of money. Like, do these people not learn from history?

I was a video game reporter for 6 years that never had a blemish on my record. Often worked extra unpaid, took last minute interviews that no one else wanted to do, rearranged my family schedule to attend events, and never asked to expense a lunch when traveling. I got laid off with a form email.

Tim Sweeney from Epic is a billionaire ghoul who has never felt any real pressure his entire life to struggle like his employees do. He and every other corporate profit loving ghoul are human scum.

if he ever did, like back in the 90s, he’s forgotten about it, which might be even worse

The more I learn about the gaming industry, the more I am happy I abandoned my aspirations for game development to focus solely on creative writing >.>

Mike! I have this argument in the dev industry all the time.

Many many many times the worst ppl go for jobs into management because the good guys are comfortable or lazy or cba making changes to their lifestyle to go into management. Most cases have zero ambition.

This is how companies are ruined.

wild that "we spent way more than we made, *again*" is a layoff announcement and not a resignation letter

layoffs are cyclical, and are considered totally normal within a capitalist system, regardless of your personal behavior. changing the players doesn't change the game.

it's not fair, and we deserve better than hoping for good capitalists to save us.
