Things that help calm the nervous system, quickly:

- Box breathing (in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4, repeat)
- Immerse your face in cold water (activates mammalian dive reflex)
- Humming (stimulates vagus nerve)
- Exercise (anything helps, outside even better)
- Impeachment and removal

Humming and whistling are extraordinarily harmful to my ears. I choose “E” as the right answer in this multiple choice. For sure, it’s “E”. Final answer.

No joke: Singing/humming legit stimulates vagal nerve function, and healthy vagal function is required for a healthy nervous system.

And you don’t even have to be in tune to get benefits.

(You must be real fun at parties.)

Thanks for the laugh! But also re box breathing, I find that in 4, hold 4, out 6, hold 4 works better than all 4s. Inhalation is muscle-powered & exhalation is not, so give the latter a bit longer.

Agreed - I usually do 4-7-8 but box breathing is a good start and easier to remember if folks haven’t done this before.

Exercise *REALLY* helps maintain mental health… up to a point.

[GF broke up w/me a week ago, my pacing w/weights became an all-day/night event; I had a crash after creating a huge calorie deficit in one day, possible hernia… and I’m still doing it because *everything* keeps getting worse]

There’s nothing quite like the cacophonous chatter of IMPEACHMENT NOW to take the edge off. Almost gives one hope for future.

There are normal people calling for Trump’s impeachment and removal, and there are cowardly people on whom he has as-yet unexploded blackmail. Those are the two groups.

I had a nice chuckle at that last entry. But let's be honest: the best way to remove stress is to remove the thing that causes it, after all. Some stressors are unavoidable, but this shouldn't be one of them.

Seriously. I assume most of us are mildly under the influence of some substance or another, most of the time. I keep saying maybe work would be better if I added that too.

Similar to exercise, anything is good, but doing impeachment and removal outside in the fresh air is better.

I tell you a very effective way @meadekrosby.bsky.social . Lie down on a floor, one leg straight and another leg 90 degree angle. This is called as PNF stretching.

This is most effective way. This is the go to therapy for male and female models before the walk so that they can land feet correctly.

I dunno, I'm more worried about *reasonably competent evil* President JD Vance, and *reasonably competent evil* President Mike Johnson.

Impeaching and Removing *incompetent evil* President Trump means President Vance.

Impeaching and Removing President Vance means President Johnson.
