As Brits, I feel like we know what the end of power looks and feels like

Except that the US has done 60-80 years of decline in under a decade

Absolutely extraordinary how a movement designed to Make America Great Again has eviscerated American 'greatness' in just months

So true Matt. And so many of us saw the failings coming but never to this extent. We also thought the military would follow the Constitution and that the Supreme Court would have experienced & intelligent people in the majority. Al Gore was elected in 2000. We should never have let that go!

Yeah, politicians appointing Supreme Court Justices is not a good idea

And Dems were just too naive in allowing Reps to manipulate the processes

Perfect example of Hemingway's bankruptcy story... US greatness declined gradually... then very quickly

The gradual stuff was the post-Gingrich political division, religious BS, the abuse of the Constitution whilst pretending that document prevented any such abuses, overreach, the inevitable rise of China & India and everyone else

Trump is an abusive bully, he believes(ed) hard power is stronger than soft power. In the short term it can be but long term you lose. Maybe that’s why he had so many business failures too ?

Yeah, it's easy to see how his businesses failed. I've been exposed to senior execs and had senior roles for 30 years

Most senior execs understand basic game theory intuitively or otherwise and play 'nice' most of the time

I've met about 5 people like Trump: never worked with them again

But the important thing is that they aren’t laughing at us

Well…they are *now*. When they’re not checking their backs for nuke targets.

Yeah... we're definitely not laughing at you now.

Looking on with a mix of absolute horror, pity and contempt is so much better energy.

Yes
It would be
If MAGA was a genuine quest

MAGA is a ragtag collection of disaffected Americans sending their $50 grocery money to a multi billionaire every week..

Yes, it is just a scam

But I do believe the underlying aim was to MAGA through return to some mythical past. At least for most voters & maybe even for Trump, though it's hard to imagine him caring about the US beyond being a more powerful platform for him

Obviously it degenerated into grift and BS
