When are we gonna admit that billionaire‑ism is an illness?

They’re hoarders

No control, insatiable greed & their hoarding just drains every one of us

They cut wages, buy politicians & bleed the planet just to watch a number tick up that they’ll never spend

Sick in the head.

@marina-purkiss.bsky.social you know the evenings you plan what to do with the £150 million lottery jackpot (as some of us do), as a 51 yo, I calculated that £2 mill would be enough to buy a house and live in reasonable comfort. And I bet I'm not the only one?, that would gove most away to charities

Hoarding wealth should become as socially unacceptable as hoarding dead cats and bottles of piss.

It is to me. More so probably. Maybe if enough of us do it individually the collective will grow.

They exploit people who are a useful tool to them. They throw out a few peanuts and say you better thank me for giving you peanuts. Then they screw you by removing any remaining rights you may have. Then blame you when they fuck you off and you have to claim benefit. Then it starts again.

They hoard 'our' wealth. Capitalism is based on exploitation. Why are workers included as a 'cost' on a balance sheet ? Not a cost at all. Without them there is no end product. No profit. No profit margin. The end profit is a sum total of all relevant parties involved in the process. Divide equally.

Simple, every month, a the world's richest billionaire is shot into space and their wealth distributed among everyone on earth. Every month, till they learn to stop.
Cummon Zack! I know it sounds a bit unconventional, but would be a strong policy for a newly envigorated party!

Wish researcher would study greed as an illness. With all this gene therapy, maybe they can find the linking gene that causes people to be emotionally inept.

Ronald Reagan created them, and Citizens United put them in charge.

"There was an item about the last billionaire on Earth. Medical experts had finally recognised the practice of accumulating vast, unspendable wealth as a dangerous addiction, detrimental to both the sanity of the individual and the well-being of society." (from story FUTURE LOVE by John Tissandier)

It's their amygdala. They share it with lizards. They can never have enough. No matter how much money they accumulate, they will screw down to the last cent.

Was wondering (yet again) earlier today what Trump is going to do with his all his newly acquired illegally gained loot. He's going to be dead soon and as the old quip goes, you can't take it with you. Although, as we are talking about Trump, you wouldn't put it past him to try.

Billions of £$€ are impossible to spend. Not being able to spend that is an economy killer. Circulation of wealth is what benefits society & growth. Sitting on more than is spendable is stagnation

IMO The accumulation of enormous sums of money is not the issue. Doing nothing with this enormous resource to solve problems is where I find it abhorrent.

Billionaire-ism isn’t an illness. It’s capitalism working exactly as designed: grotesque wealth at the top for the few, while everyone else fights over crumbs at the bottom.

But what makes them even want to live that way? Everyday people aren't like that.

Not convinced they actually "watch a number tick up".
They are purely motivated by the greed impulse of "what results in more for me", without considering the knock-on effects (or lying to themselves about them).
Only a precious few see themselves as a redistribution point.(eg, Buffett?)

Do billionaires have a number in mind which will be enough for them to be happy? Does Muskkk believe he’ll finally be happy when he’s a trillionaire? They all seem to be such angry, miserable people perhaps hoarding more & more isn’t a strategy for happiness.

I worked with a few men obsessed with making as much money as possible by any means. Morally they were like gangsters in expensive suits and a modern version of neanderthals. I agree that they probably suffer from some illness, maybe related to hunter gathering.

Thatcher and Reagan worshipped the so-called wealth creators and tipped the scales in their favour. They’ve been tipping more rapidly ever since. Making the world a more unjust and impoverished place just to appease a few hoarders.

Hoarders. Yes. We miss that fact because wealthy people have clean and luxurious surroundings.
But would this be true if others didn’t intervene?

Think of Howard Hughes. He ended up as dotty and neglected as any hermit hoarder.

This is a very important point, Marina. In the past wealthy people became philanthropists. There are many example. The Lever family is one. John Lewis owners was another. Billionaires should not be looked up to. They are not a good example to the rest of us.

Can we please refrain from using terms such as “sick in the head” in a derogatory manner. For those that are, in fact, “sick in the head”, it is not a failing but an illness.

Think the word you're looking for is "psychopath". They're psychopaths, so technically it's not an illness; it's an immutable trait

My 11-year old said this morning "Dad, I just can't understand why millionaires want to get more money to become billionaires. I think £10m is more than enough for anyone. Think of what we could do?"

Theyve grown their wealth from 58 billion in 1990 to 580 billion this year... But blame immigrants for the cost of greed crisis, perpetuated by the government, its donors and friends.

There is simply no need, whatsoever, for anyone to accumulate billions in wealth other than to satisfy some indescribable and deeply suspect selfish desire. No good is likely to come of it.

This is why right wing millionaires hate the inheritance tax. They're desperate to keep the wealth in the family circle!

I've been saying this for years.

Billionaires should not exist.
They are why we are all in this mess. They put that monster into the White House and look where we are now.

Purge the billionaires.

That’s grossly unfair

They work hard and are the wealth creators

If it wasn’t for people being tipped off before a Trump announcement and placing bets on the market making hundreds of millions in 15 minutes….

They do have some kind of illness. The only saving grace for us ordinary folk is that they all look miserable as heck. I'd rather be happy than obscenely rich if that's what it does.

They're going to 'trickle down' a fair share to the millions of workers who made them rich and pay all the taxes soon! Any day now... just gotta be patient...oh, yes...er...

I agree. And where they perhaps used to mainly concentrate on their businesses and profits, they seem to increasingly want to meddle in everything and use their wealth to influence and control us all. They are a major factor in all the world's problems now. It is going to a very bad place.

It's the American illness, we revere and worship these people because they somehow convinced everyone your turn is next.

Yes, you! You will hit that scratch off and be a billionaire too so don't tax them because you're just hurting your future self.

It's madness from the top down.

I keep banging on about exactly this to anyone that will listen/is within earshot.

The apathy most people demonstrate towards this is why the billionaires can carry on at will.

That, or they are incredibly bored by me. 🤔

It’s not the money. You can easily get too much of that. But it’s the power and control that they can’t get enough off
