Is it still circulating? Called something else? Eradicated my food hygiene? Big problem in some areas but I've just not come across? I've seen outbreaks of ebola, cholera, norovirus and salmonella in the news, but never listeria!

There are numerous food recalls a year in the US because of listeria contamination and often at least some people are sickened or worse.

I wondered if maybe that was the problem in the US. Its odd to us seeing tv tropes in US television where people get food poisoning all the time because its not a thing here. I've never heard anyone say it was listeria, but that makes sense.

Maybe you're not paying enough attention.

I can't say I knew of all of these food poisoning outbreaks when they happened, but I was certainly aware of the larger ones that affected multiple states. And Listeria is the most common cause.

This is just in 2025:

I'm in the UK. We know you guys seem to take serious food poisoning as a natural part of life, but it had never occurred to me that 'food poisoning' included listeria as a cause. Outbreaks in the US wouldn't be reported here if they are normal there. Thanks!
