Reminds me of the one comment about a bunch of creatives going "No no, AI is great for automating THEIR jobs but MY job can never be replaced by an AI." because none of them was paying any attention to the work other people actually did.

Like Tara Strong posting AI art and going "But it's cute" when people told her that the art was AI. She's okay with it taking away artist's jobs, but I guess she assumes because she's Tara Strong, that it could never take away her job.

I'll never understand people who are against AI when it's about their own profession, but are fine if it's about something else.

If you're gonna reject it, you have to reject it wholesale. There's no cherry-picking here.

My wife uses AI (e.g. to create exam questions, which she then checks before using) in her job as a head science teacher at an international school in China. Seems fine to me.

AND we are both against the use of AI by militaries, which is clearly very dangerous.

If last year thought me anything is that a lot of people in the industry that were "We don't want AI, We don't tolerate it" only had a problem when they don't benefit out of it.

thats the exact problem with the mondset. "well i know how this thing works and AI cant do that, but it'd be great for this thing that i know nothing about." and its just been an endless circle of that from the assholes who kept pushing for it.
