Redlining started IN Chicago. When I worked with the Shame of Chicago documentary about it, none of the lawyers, realtors, city/state staff, bankers, etc. we screened it for in Chicago knew about this history (mid)shaping their industries with systemic racism until the film.

We read about firebombings, protests, and MLK coming to cities when in crisis over racism and no one mentioned that CHICAGO HAD ALL OF THE ABOVE.
Now I wonder how many teachers even knew (we screened the doc for hundreds of them also)

I didn't stop with segregated neighborhoods. A Duke study for Shame of Chicago determined at least $4 billion was plundered from Black buyers via overpriced predatory housing contacts while their white counterparts got equity & cheaper terms through mortgages
