Love to see the head of a major teacher's union coming out in favor of the most anti-labor, anti-educational technology to appear this century

AFT has 1.7 million members.

Now I have no clue about union dues, but I suspect that they get more than that from membership given those numbers.

As usual, it’s corruption.

Wish our union had mob connections instead. That would be more respectable.

"Even if you hate AI, everyone is using it" is the most cowardly, morally vacant, fascist-appeasing argument you could make. Imagine saying "No matter how you feel about slavery, its use is growing, and it's important that educators understand how to integrate it as a tool in their classrooms"

You're the head of a TEACHER'S UNION! This shit is meant to destroy both teachers and unions! Taking a payoff to embrace it without even a perfunctory show of resistance isn't just worthy of your resignation, it ought to lead to your imprisonment. Just complete collaborationist bullshit, disgraceful

That’s a poor analogy. Slavery is about owning and mistreating people. Wildly different than using a trendy collection of algorithms. This is more “students should learn PowerPoint because everyone uses PowerPoint.” Except worse because AI will make students turn off their brain.

It's like evangelizing you want to be fired and replaced by an automated system. Reagan coded neo-libs literally cumming to this on two levels: firing more public sector students and putting more control of education into the private sector. Holy shit more dystopian every day.

Everybody is smoking cigarettes and our educators need to learn how integrate smoking in their classrooms.

this would be like them announcing in 1983 that student learn best when they order term papers from the back of Rolling Stone magazine.
