I identify as a pagan now, but I was baptized and confirmed Episcopalian. (My maternal grandfather was an Episcopal minister.)

While I don’t believe in the doctrine, I still find the teachings and many of the stories, symbols, and rituals powerful.

This Catholic Pope draws upon the best of those.

The reverence for nature that is foundational to pagan orientation speaks to me. I don’t choose to identify as a specific type of pagan, however. (I’m pretty averse to doctrine of all kinds, lol.)

One of my favorite Christian symbols—which will come as no surprise given my paganism—is the dove.

In Christianity, the dove represents divine presence or the Holy Spirit and has since the beginning of the faith.

It is mentioned in all four of the canonical gospels.
