What is wrong with the Germans? After Rheinmetall CEO Papperger likened Ukrainian innovation to housewives playing with Lego in their kitchens; now security expert Carlo Masala tries to compare Ukraine's defence of a 2,450-kilometre front line to 'guerrilla warfare', drawing comparisons with Iran👇

Drawing any comparisons between Ukraine and Iran is both, insulting and wrong. The Ukrainian army is not 'weaker' and is not fighting a 'guerrilla' war. It has forced the russians to retreat multiple times and is successfully holding a 1,200 km front. UA has the strongest standing army in Europe.

w/o comparing anything: Lesson we get from Russia's war against Ukraine is completed by lesson we get from US war against Iran. It says: You can't wage war (like Russia) not willing or not able (like US) putting your country and it's people at risk. This applies to aggression the same as to defense.

Apart from the fact that it is too early to draw any conclusions about the war in Iran, how can you make comparisons without actually comparing? That's ridiculous.Nobody is operating in a vacuum. Neither Rheinmetall CEOs nor security experts. Iran's 'strategy',if you can call it that was 'total war'

This is an important consideration. Since we in Europe are threatened by both the US and Russia, it is essential to understand asymmetric warfare, as Europe is less powerful in the air than the US.

I'm not sure, but I would also argue that the answer lies in post-imperial delusions of grandeur, or simply, arrogance.

Nothing new here, just he usual German Herrenmenschen-Komplex, Prussian-Russian colonizer alliances against Poland, and after 1941-44 "Reichskommissariat Ukraine" = once you've colonized a place, you will always feel superior.

* and dictate to "make peace with putin, no war" etc.

I took the time to read the article during my lunch break today. I don’t find anything wrong with it. I can’t agree with this criticism.

I read his recent book with interest. However, the comparison between Ukraine and Iran in military terms is flawed. Ukraine is not fighting a 'guerrilla war',nor is it weaker.Iran's strategy is total war against its neighbours and its own population—the russian aggressors are far from that scenario.

Last year, the same expert published a book called What If Russia Wins, in which he questioned the ability of the Baltic states to defend themselves.
