A GENTLE REMINDER: we are trying to eliminate fossil fuels because using them kills us.

If fossil fuels were cheap (they're not) or reliable (they're SO NOT), it would still be urgent to get rid of them because their intended use destroys our life support systems.

Even if we were unaffected (we're VERY NOT), it'd still be incumbent on us not to kill future generations of people by burning completely avoidable 19th century compressed plant matter today.

Climate targets are important because they keep us focused on trying to stop fossil fuels killing more people than they already have killed.

One would have to either possess a crippling degree of ignorance or a toxic and cynical level of nihilism to not do what you personally are capable of to reduce the gravity and impact of our species activities on our mother planet.

But what if we could get πŸ’΅ from taxing them? We could keep mining them and use the money to help poor people and also buy new habitats to replace all the places like Ningaloo that the heating the fossil fuels cause is destroying. This is an idea that’s really catching on among climate advocates in πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί

And, as many people have pointed out, wind and solar power, for example, don't get stuck in the Strait of Hormuz.

We don't go to war for hydrodynamic or geothermal power.

Absolutely! The irony is that even if there was no climate risk from fossil fuels, by all measures, renewable energy and energy use reduction - through home insulation etc - would still be by far the wisest route. It's cleaner, safer, cheaper, less prone to single point of failure and more effective
