So much AI propaganda about “saving time” is capitalist propaganda. You need to do things faster so you can make more money because work has been devalued and full-time jobs are harder to come by. But AI isn’t going to make YOU rich. It’s already devaluing the work and the jobs even more

the 'saves time' pitch always felt hollow - time for what? tracking gets automated, sure. but the judgment calls don't go anywhere, and that's the part companies actually need. who captures the freed capacity is the real question.

i build AI tools for a living and the sales pitch is always "efficiency." but efficiency for *whom* is never in the deck. have you seen workers actually push back on this in the room, or does it just get absorbed as the new baseline?

Because they somehow believe you have to still be at your job those 8 to 10 hours a day no matter what in order to fulfill your social contract.

Been thinking about Goodhart's Law: "when a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure".

AI propagandists see "More, faster output" as the measure of how useful AI is, so the more output we force out of it, the more useful it *must therefore* be.

Skipping over "but is it...good?"

It’s not about giving people more rest or better lives — it’s about squeezing more output out of already devalued labor. And now the same tools being marketed as “helpers” are being used to undercut wages, replace jobs, and flood markets with cheap, disposable work.

to me, that's a problem with who has power in our society, and who determines what to do with the saved time.

I think humanity's well-being should not be determined by "how useful capital thinks you are"

Join a #CommunistParty! We need to overcome our mode of production. We can work less and have better lives if we do not work for other people’s profit.

FYI: #CPUSA is growing.

every study that comes out shows that incorporating AI makes you take longer because you're constantly triple checking everything for errors

We're always too optimistic about outcomes. We'll figure this all out once it's too late.

Worst case scenario is that AI creates efficiencies by taking jobs, but only slightly enriches a small group. So, there's no big pot of money to redistribute to the unemployed.

It is not saving time. AI and tech are putting the time burden on the consumer. There is an individual app for everything with updates, passwords, two-factor identification and menus to navigate. An old script might ask one or two questions. AI will ask you ten because it has nothing but time.

AI is presented as a solution to what capitalism has wrought, but it’s actually speeding up the consequences of capitalism. Now we have fewer jobs than before and creative work pays even less and you need to make more of it. Instead of hiring people or more people to do things, use AI

It’s unfortunate that so many people are blinded by the potential of the technology to overlook the consequences of implementing the technology in a capitalist society and culture where making money is prioritized over all else. It’s clear how promising technology is destructive in these conditions

Those Dell commercials that promoted AI so you can get your work done faster in order to make time for leisure was so funny to me. Like, great it took me an hour to summarize and send my emails… I still have to sit here for 7 more hours???

I can only assume the true target audience of those commercials is the 0.1%—they want to reach the bosses so they can force their employees to use AI, with the assumption that the “time-saving” benefits and added leisure will flow upward

Seeing a couple of projects in my workplace it is clear this stuff can only poorly summarize and rearrange the work that always needed to be done in the first place

Billionaires sell the free time to average people, as AI handles the menial, grunt service jobs; never mentioning there will be no jobs and no salary to survive on after AI handles everything.
