You did, in fact, have a half Spanish, quarter French King, as Edward II was Alfonso's younger, full brother and he did take the throne.

D’oh. I hadn’t actually thought of that.
But it is amazing that we could have had a King called Alfonso.

If we had though, it would probably have been rendered as Alphonse and then it would have become a super popular name in England and now we'd all be like "What name could possibly be more English than Alphonse???"
