Bright colors used to be a sign if wealth too because of the cost of dyes. Our ancestors would be offended.

One of the things I really enjoyed about The Gilded Age on HBO was that the wealthy women were sometimes in EYE-SEARING color combos. My big hate-on for Steampunk is that everything is BROWN when the Victorians were truly going balls out with new brilliant colors & dyes thanks to industrialization!
