I know nothing about Neopets but I have to think putting loot tables and a systematized marketplace into Golden Sky Stories would get you most the way there.

There was a Neopets game jam a little while ago inspired by this whole debacle, and several people were of a similar mind that sufficient random tables to roll on could pretty closely replicate a lot of the experience in and of itself

A couple of friends of mine backed it and have been telling me about the guy basically post Posting Through It to the backer discord, it's kinda wild he got this chance in the first place

My understanding, from the outside looking in, is that Neopets has worked with Geekify before when doing licensed merchandise of various sorts, so I assume there was a preexisting relationship in place that paved the way for them to take on this project

Getting an email with a smiling neocritter handing down a "rip bozo" is probably one of the more ignominious ways one can be terminated from a project

the magical smiling Tonu firing one of their long-term merch partners and wishing 7,500 backers luck getting their own refunds is kind of spectacular
