The reason I ask is because I'm not sure that it always does teach kids how to sit with discomfort. I don't know, and I don't know if any research has been done on the impacts of such things, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are some folks who should not have read what was available to them.

I think reading and watching are different experiences. It can be a lot easier to close a book than turn away from a disturbing scene. And I think whenever we talk about kids we have to remember that they are all different!

It's easier for me to stop watching than stop reading, but yes, exactly, everyone's different. Some kids really need more guidance when it comes to what they read, and that should fall on the guardians. I've just never been sure how much libraries and bookstores should intervene, if at all.
