The problem for Israel is that it has always insisted on compartmentalizing the three fronts to preserve freedom of action on each of them.

But in breaching the line of direct conflict with Iran, and bringing Trump along for the ride, that now becomes more difficult, and Iran knows it.

Netanyahu has basically managed to ensure that, at the very least in this short-term period, Trump's interests now align more with Iran's than with Israel's.

Yes. With time, I think he can probably turn that into active antipathy. And everyone will discover what isolation actually looks like. It’s strategically insane and criminally irresponsible.

Another important tension in the ceasefire is whether Israel is attacking Hezbollah or Lebanon. Here, too, Israel has always insisted on distinguishing the two, for obvious reasons, so the nuance of how this is expressed matters.

Yeah and in Israeli discourse this strategic mistake has barely been noticed I think. Its mostly discussed as dependency on Trump.

But if war on Iran was (partially) justified with October 7th, why would Iran agree to a resolution that doesn't mention Hamas (to give the more extreme example)?

I don't think Iran will insist on Hamas as much as it will on Hezbollah, but without a holistic resolution, there will always be the option of one conflict bleeding into the other. So from an Iranian perspective, it won't be a resolution if that isnt ruled out.

Please tell your reps in DC what you think about war with Iran. It only takes a few minutes and it doesn't cost any money. We don't need money in politics. We just need people to participate. Please also support 100% Democracy on my website: www.nationalfinancialplan.com
