I guess I also don’t really get why investors think this company is being truthful to them, or is even remotely viable under its current model

It's not that they think the company is being truthful, it's just that they think they can make a profit off the company. It's very similar to how none of the grifters actually trust Trump, but they recognize that he's got a golden ticket and maybe they can tag along.
