I don't get why core inflation excludes food and energy. That's my entire life right there. Going to the grocery store and filling up my car to get to gigs.

And I'm not the only one. This is hurting way more than the numbers indicate.

Having listened to numerous Prof. Wolfers YouTube videos, core inflation excludes gas and food because they fluctuate a lot seasonally. That causes “top line” inflation to swing wildly throughout the year. Core inflation represents price increases that are likely permanent.
