It will take time (especially as an Apple user) make the technology and other products I own as independent from and non-reliant on American products as possible, but I'm finally getting started trying to do so. Recent events have been an impetus. This website is helpful: european-alternatives.eu

I did the same 1 year ago, using nextcloud. It has been really good so far. Proton solution also. Good luck with your migration 🙂

European nations desperately need to end our dependence on American technological infrastructure. For areas such as banking, defence and security as well as many of the basic infrastructural materials underpinning modern IT systems this is going to prove especially difficult, but it has to be done.

Getting universities to reduce reliance on Microsoft/Amazon Web Services etc. will be like trying to turn round an oil tanker. But I do hope this moment will begin to catalyse something.

I've been looking at EU based alternatives for better consumer-level privacy (I live in the US), thegood.cloud works well for me for file and image backup & the pricing seemed appropriate, ios app is stable

I thought I was the only one that got (re)triggered to look at European/Open alternatives for tech.

The Apple user part feels close to home as well, definitely will be rethinking my options on the hardware side next time I need an upgrade as well..
